A massive Polish presence in Italy, particularly during the 16th and 17th century, is the fact often referred to when the roots of Polish humanist culture is under discussion. Indeed, Poland has been the only state in Central and Eastern Europe which absorbed on a larger scale the ideals of the Renaissance.
